Full Description: The city of Rousse is the largest Bulgarian city on the Danube River, one of the major centers of economy in the country and a natural gateway to Europe, Russia and the Near East. It is situated in the northeastern part of Bulgaria, at a distance of approximately 300 km from the capital city of Sofia. It is the center of the Northern Central Planning Region. The geographic location of the Municipality Ruse, the substantial industrial and trade facilities and the good transport connections are among its key advantages. Its wide outlet on the Danube is a precondition for the overall development of industry, agriculture, transport and cross-border cooperation. Its location is favorable also owing to the two European transport corridors No. 7 and No. 9, which cross each other there and ensure the connection of the Municipality with the Baltic and Northern Sea areas, as well as with the Mediterranean and Black Sea. The only bridge (till now 2006) over the Danube on the territory of Bulgaria for the time being is in Rousse Municipality. The rich cultural and historical heritage of Rousse and the adjacent region, the Danube River and the nature in the land along the river provide opportunities for creating a specialized tourist product, which meets the requirements and modern trends in tourism.
